Mo Dotti – “Loser Smile”
A smudged and smeared signal rises out of L.A. today with the reveal of the first cut from an upcoming EP by locals Mo Dotti. With a tank full of early MBV, Lush, and Telescopes, the track rides a wave of bottled guitar chaos. Churning with an entropy-entrenched force, the song slams against the seawalls of the brain, but Gina Negrini’s vocals cut against the waves like a skilled rider in the storm. The upcoming EP finds its way out in March — a short collection of songs that showcases the band’s pop scope, ranging from gentle strums to the tumult of “Loser Smile,” and even a cover of Stephin Merritt’s The 6ths thrown in that pushes towards a jangled joy that’s hard to resist. The Guided Imagery EP is out soon on Smoking Room.
