A strong second showing from Styrofoam Winos new record, the new single “Next Thing” blends hard-bitten strums with the soft cry of steel. It’s lodged wonderfully between folk and country, a weathered n’ rumpled treatise that feels like the members’ time with Ryan Davis has been rubbing off on them. A heavy sigh sits at the heart of the song, but the band manages to mold it into an upbeat rumble that’s perfect for double-window-down breezes and rumination. The new single sits tight among a crop of new gems on the band’s upcoming record, Any River, out June 19th from Dear Life Records.
