The Laughing Chimes – “Behind Your Blue Fields”
The first of new batch of bonus material and cutout curiosities today comes from RSTB faves The Laughing Chimes. In the wake of their last album, which took a turn towards dark ripples of goth pop, the band began to rifle through the racks of their demos and discarded ideas that fit with their previously pristine jangles. The more they dug, the more they found a collection of songs that could have formed a very different sophomore LP. On Behind Your Blue Fields, the band culls together that material; some of it scrubbed and soaring, some of it intimate 4-track demos, but all cured in their sweet sincerity and unblemished pop adoration. The title track feels like a callback to their first record, wrapped in the winds of ‘90s indie pop and perfectly set to sink the listener into Spring days. The new compilation, Behind Your Blue Fields, is out May 22nd from Slumberland.
