Offir Ganon – “Belville”

Island House has consistently been digging through the best in instrumental guitar, jazz, and experimental music over the past few years. Usually slipping out in small tape runs, the label broke the seal on vinyl releases last year with an excellent record with Pat Keen. For their second outing on the turntable the table cues up a new record from consummate collaborator Ofir Ganon. Having previously been found on stage with Arto Lindsay, Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier, and Zach Hill and Andy Morin of Death Grips, the guitarist has preferred to keep his playing in front of an audience, but with Same Air, he translates the stately grace of his stringwork to tape. “Belville” is a tender, meditative piece that exemplifies the works on Same Air. Laying over the listener in silken strands, Ganon’s playing invites a pastoral calm into any moment, a gentle reset that reverberates through the air. The new album is out January 27th from Island House.
