Jessica Risker – “Sipping in the Sunshine”

A lovely new single out of perennial favorite sound font Island House lands today. Slipping to the side of the label’s usual focus on jazz, guitar soli, and experimental, the new single is from Jessica Risker, who brings a touch of tender folk to the table. With a delivery that falls into the outer rings of Jessica Pratt or Jennifer Castle, it’s certainly not the kind of offering I’d have expected from the NYC label, but it’s gorgeous all the same. Laced with delicate strums, organ, and breezy flute, the song is saturated with a pastoral air that feels good on the skin. No confirmed details for a full length just yet, but here’s hoping this is just the beginning. The new video is out now with a lo-fi aesthetic that feeds into the song’s sweet simplicity. Keep an ear on the House for more.
