Jessica Risker – “City Hours”
Got a second single from of the upcoming Jessica Risker album today. Bubbling under the fray on the excellent Island House, the songwriter breaks the label’s stride of psych and jazz for an excellent dive into folk and pop. While the first single seemed aligned with the gentle grace of Jennifer Castle or Jessica Pratt, there’s more of a lean on percussive burble this time around, feeling like a kindred spirit to Kate Bollinger’s sun-swaddled psych-pop or the dizzying haze of Vanishing Twin. “City Hours” locks into a loping beat, letting Risker’s vocals wind through mazes of bass and clouds of synth. The single comes with more context this time as well, appearing on her upcoming album Calendar Year, which finds its way out August 3rd from Island House.
