Doug Tuttle – “Lead Mask”

Avatar

Always excited to see a new Doug Tuttle on the dock and he follows up a solid single for Six Tonnes De Chair Records with an EP for Italian label Wild Honey. “Lead Mask” places Doug’s classic folk chug over a looping beat that throbs against the speakers. Tuttle’s pop sensibilities rise through the pound n’ pick, letting this one diverge from his past few offerings of sun-in psych-pop. This is a more direct route for Tuttle, born of Pollard and sitting alongside recent turns from Honey Radar and Terry. The hooks still don’t slash wild, but that subtle smile always looks good on Doug. This one grows under the skin until it latches tight. The new EP, Pinecone, is out July 9th.
