Wurld Series – “Alive With Flies”

The singles from this new Wurld Series album are coming quick and close, but the album actually finds the band in a much more laconic state than their last. With an ear towards the Canterbury crowd and the soot-smeared pop of Robert Wyatt, the new record finds the band pretty far afield from the more ‘90s-knocked punk ’n alt-rock riffs that found their way into the last record. There are few tracks on the upcoming, The Giant’s Lawn that exemplify their interest in Waytt more than “Alive With Flies.” The new single jettisons hooks and anything coming near guitar crunch for a sour ripple of sax, foreboding strings, and a lovely bit of bleakness that I wouldn’t have expected, but find quite welcome. The new album finds its way out from Meritorio Records and Melted Ice Cream on November 17th.
