Vanity Mirror – “Tuesday’s News”
As I’ve been in a particularly heavy run of listening to Emitt Rhodes lately, this first single from Vanity Mirror hits pretty hard. The band, with members of L.A. psych-pop revivalists The Electric Looking Glass, swing out of the ‘60s and into the ‘70s, going for Apple Records-era power pop with nods to Rhodes, The Raspberries, and Badfinger. “Tuesday’s News” is hung on a rolling piano line, worn-tweed harmonies, and just a touch of scorch in those guitar lines. This would have fit nicely on that mixtape I just ran wrapping up ‘70s-indebted pop and fans of Ornament, Foxygen, The Explorers Club, or Drugdealer should find something to hold onto here. The band’s new album, Puff, is out May 12th from We Are Busybodies.
