Supreme Joy – “Body Contact”

Avatar

A couple of months back I featured the first single from Supreme Joy, the new band from Ryan Wong of Cool Ghouls. The songs were faded pop Polaroids, rife with jangles, slides and languorous harmonies. Now Ryan is back with a debut album that explores quite a few sides of his songwriting, leaping off of the Ghouls’ garage, jangle, n’ surf springboards to explore the psych-pop wilds. The first cut, “Body Contact” finds Wong propelled from the first moments into color soaked power jangles. The vocals bounce between the feedback crush and the bounding beat, knotting the hooks into the brain with a lucid glee. The accompanying video is a stop-motion barrage of cut n’ paste fun that pairs well with the song’s psych-pop pulse. The debut cassette, which features a bevy of Ryan’s local Denver talent, is out May 28th. Check out the video for “Body Contact” above.
