Possum – “Gala at the University City”

Another new bout of psych-scratched madness from Canadian enclave Idée Fixe. Possum crosses over membership with recent faves Roy, and they’re aiming for some of the same era of brainfry, albeit with much less mellow results. Imbued with funk wracked jazz, but burning down the brain with plenty of fuzz guitar blowouts, the band finds themselves hung at the early ‘70s crossroads of Human Instict, Herbie Hancock and The Nice. The band’s first single reigns in some of their more explorationry tendencies, but still goes straight for the body buzz movement and liquid light brain bubbles that make the band hit. If you picked up that Stonegrass LP from last year, this ought to be right in line for you. Lunar Gardens lands June 2nd.
