Emergency Group – “Mind Screen”

Avatar

Some of Brooklyn’s finest purveyors of psychedelic jazz connect with Chris Schlarb and the Big Ego imprint. Emergency Group have been quietly and confidently building a reputation through live shows and tapes on Island House and Centripetal Force. Now they prep for their proper debut, a new record that finds them exploring the studio setting and balancing their penchant for longform improvisation with a pair of worked through compositions that take shape under guidance of Schlarb. The first taste of the album is the title track and opener “Mind Screen.” While the band retains their immediacy, as nods to the electric Miles years return, there’s a dark hunger to this track that’s pushing beyond their previous works. The new record, Mind Screen, is out July 1st from Big Ego.
