TWÏNS – “Love, Third Variation (featuring Sarah Martin)”

Great to see a new single from German outfit TWÏNS this week. The band’s last album, The Human Jazz, was a favorite around here, steeped in slinking jazz and curled with psychedelic smoke. The new single pushes a bit more toward ‘70s folk, starting from an inspiration in the works of Carole King, but in true fashion for TWÏNS, the song is toasted at the edges and smoldered in a haze of pungent psychedelics, allowing itself to unravel towards the end. The song brings in Sarah Martin of Meagre Martin to add just the right vocal touch, and Martha Rose on flute and backing vocals. The result is steeped in its folk inspirations, but colored with a kaleidoscope of psychedelic jazz. The single crops up on the band’s new album, Healing Dreams, out May 23rd from Earth Libraries.
