Cory Hanson – “Housefly”

Very nice to see new music today from Wand’s Cory Hanson. His solo records have traditionally been a more meditative counterpoint to the prog complexities of Wand, but from the first bars of “Housefly” it feels like the new record skews a bit different. His previous solo works have dealt in folk and country touches, smudged with rain and regret, but while “Housefly” doesn’t exactly deal in delight, it has a more exuberant edge to it. The lonesome croon has been met with a heady surge of guitars, more Crazy Horse this time than Skip Spence. It marks a new chapter for Hanson as a solo artist. The new single is paired up with a psych-laced claymation video from Sean McAnulty. The new record, Western Cum, is out June 23rd from Drag City.
