Cass McCombs – “Peace”

An old favorite back on the site. I finally caught Cass live a few years ago and something about the stage really brought the catalog into perspective. The new video finds Cass in a state of return and reflection. He returns to Domino after years at Anti-, Smithsonian Folkways, and a few side quests and collaborations that tumbled out in the past few years. The latter two have been a couple of my favorites, finding him sparring with Steve Gunn and Weak Signal, and the upcoming album embraces the spirit of those low-profile 7”s. The new record also sees him return to a wealth of collaborators, paring once more with Mike Bones, with Matt Sweeney, Chris Cohen, and Jason Quever of Papercuts also involved in the upcoming album. The first single, “Peace” has a rumpled grace about it, an ease that’s been earned over the course of a catalog that’s burned its place into the collective consciousness. A song about leaving, but never quite saying goodbye, the new single crops up on Cass’ upcoming record, Interior Live Oak, out August 15th from Domino.
