Yasmin Williams – “Hummingbird”
Yasmin Williams’ new album arrives just in time to help the listener slip into Autumn, wafting out of the speakers on cool breezes. Her new single, “Hummingbird,” embraces a bluegrass ramble that feels just right for crisp mornings and the evening buzz of crickets. With Allison de Groot on banjo and Tatiana Hargreaves on fiddle, the new song starts out with a flurry of strings. An accompanying video that gives a hummingbird’s view of the country/city divide adding to the song’s bittersweet edge. The trio slows things as the song wears on, lending a melancholy, yet sanguine, air to the piece. The song aches and eventually slips past it’s heartache for a closing smile that returns to the pace and bearing of the beginning. The song appears on Williams’ Nonesuch debut, Acadia, out October 4th.
