Veps – “Mooney Tunes”

Digging this new single from Norway’s Veps. The young Oslo quartet feels like they may have grown up out of time on a steady diet of Veruca Salt (in their softer moments), Sleater-Kinney (embracing the pop, but not necessarily the discord), Letters To Cleo, and Julianna Hatfield. There’s a crossover appeal to some of recent Aussie faves, with particular shades of the excellent debut from Loose Tooth coming to mind. Bass and keys tug to get the listener’s attention but it’s hard to knock the focus off of Helena Mariero Olasveengen’s vocals, with a perfect mix of alt-dug nostalgia and crisp indie cool. “Mooney Tunes” is the first single off of the band’s debut, Oslo Park, produced by Matias Tellez and set to arrive November 18th on Kanine Records.
