Upper Wilds – “Love Song #2”

Avatar

A brand new scorcher from Upper Wilds descends the week and its good to have Dan Friel’s (Parts & Labor) candy-coated chaos back between the speakers once more. As heavy as anything that the Wilds or Friel’s other tangents have released so far. With a crunching riff pulling from noise, metal, and skate punk in some sort of power vortex, “Love Song #2” devours the listener and deposits them somewhere between the ionized air and the skull crunch that follows a leap made with ambitions and a lack of fear. The song redlines the brain before skidding to a stop in a cloud of dust and destruction. ’21 has been a hell of a year so far for music, but honestly not much has lit up the nerve endings like this one. Gonna be tough to beat the bombast that Friel’s dopamine rush drops right here. The new LP, Venus, is out July 23rd from Thrill Jockey.
