UAY – “Planetas”

I’ve been behind in throwing some attention towards Guadalajara psych outfit UAY, but their upcoming album Kukulkan for Halfshell Records is shaping up into a real gem. The band has built themselves into a wellspring of heavy psych at home, founding the Mexicadelia Festival in their hometown and wracking up a string of heavy opener slots in the US as well (Oh Sees, Khruangbin). The third single, “Planetas” finds the band deep in the heart of cosmic psychedelia. A typhoon of rhythm drives the song, tumbling and twisting beneath the group’s rising tide of guitars. The band stretches out within the song’s six-minute run, singeing and seething in cycle. The new album arrives June 6th.
