The Tubs – “Dead Meat”

Avatar

The dissolution of Joanna Gruesome made way for Ex-Vöid and their counterparts The Tubs. While the beloved band’s passing was a definite loss, out of the rubble grew two new favorites around here. The Tubs have been riding high on the anticipated list around here since their first single. A follow-up EP split between Trouble in Mind and Prefect Records did little to dampen that excitement and the band’s debut is already shaping up to be one of the best of 2023, cracking open the year. The band releases the title track to Dead Meat — 1:30 of fizzing pop, jangled goodness, and lyrics that shift blame back and forth between undesirable roommates. The band imbues indie pop with a weathered folk soul, often citing Richard Thompson as an influence, finding a balance between the ‘70s sheen and the brittle bones of The Clean. The new album is out January 27th from Trouble In Mind.
