The Submissives – “Obessed”
by Andy
Catching up on this one from last week, but I’d be remiss not to mention this superb slice of indie pop. The Submissives have been haunting Montreal for about a decade, and while several recordings from songwriter Deb Edison solo have found their way out under the moniker, this is the first time the full live band has been captured in the studio, recorded live to tape at Value Sound Studios. The first taste from the album is the wobble pop gem “Obsessed,” a cut that slips Deb’s VU visions through shades of The Raincoats and Oh-OK. The new album lets the band spread out and let their sourball girl-group sound come into its own. The record is out October 11th from Celluloid Lunch.
