Smote – “The Opinion of the Lamb (pt. 1)”

Rocket brings another dose of creosote and ash from Smote, the outfit headed by Daniel Foggin. On his latest, Smote’s sound expands, spilling onto two LPs and wandering from the barren bog folk of his previous works to something much more sinister. That malevolence rears its head on the first taste of the album, the opener to a two-part suite, “The Opinion of The Lamb.” With an anxious air that picks up steam as the song marches to it’s second half, Smote gathers from a ritualistic repertoire. The song situates itself somewhere between ancient incantation and scorched psychedelics. It sits among the apex of the upcoming album, A Grand Stream, out August 23rd from Rocket Recordings.
