Sean Thompson’s Weird Ears – “Storm’s Comin’ Tonight”

The Cosmic American gods are smiling on us today as Sean Thompson offers up a third and final single before the release of Head In The Sand. My favorite from the upcoming new album, the single taps into the stage-cured commotion that’s made the Weird Ears one of the best live acts over the past few years. When the band hit the stage at Deep in the Valley this past year, this is the kind of energy that the band brought with them. The song slinks past Sean’s more amiable singles and sinks its teeth into an underlying darkness. With an acid-dipped rumble, the song balances twang and prog-primed keys into an Americana that has room on the ridge for Manzarak and Wright’s haunted phrasing. It feels like a perfect pairing with the Eric Silverman LP from a couple of years ago, dark waters with uneasy ghosts. The new album is out February 7th from Sean’s own Ears Over America label.
