Scott Hirsch – “Future King”

A second single surfaces today from Scott Hirsch, laying back into a softer side of Scott’s JJ boogie. “Future King” is burbling with rhythm, but ensconced in silvery synths courtesy of Skyway Man’s James Wallace. The song swims through deep sunset hues, playing guitar slide and synth against the swamp funk of drums and an ice water chill of background vocals. Tinged with uncertainty, melancholy, and an icy anxiety in the pit of the stomach, the song counterbalances the lyrics with some of Hirsch’s smoothest sounds yet. The push and pull of the lyrics and music give “Future KIng” a narcotic high, buzzing with an electricity that’s just below its sun-warmed surface. The new record, Lost Padres, is out soon from Scott’s own Echo Magic imprint.
