Maston – “Foreign Affairs b/w Liason”

A double shot of smooth, baroque soul settles in from site favorite Maston. Often splitting sides between psych and library funk, this time the West Coast songwriter stocks the cheese plate and turns the lights down low for a Bacharach-esque romp through two instrumental sides that are sure to soak into the woodgrain and pair well with a dark red. This time around Frank rounded up a huge ensemble to bring his cinematic vision to life, with over a dozen collaborators, including Oscar Sholto Robertson on drums and frequent collaborator Elie Ghersinu on bass. There are scant few filling in the atmosphere of the lounge these days, but Maston manages to do it with reverence to the originals, turning the genre towards sophisticated style rather than off the shelf muzak. The new songs are out now digitally, with a 7” version planned for the summer on BeWith Records.
