Ryan Wong – “Yo Yo”

Another great single slips out from the upcoming Ryan Wong solo LP. Wong (Cool Ghouls) captures a country croon with a lighter heart, feeling very comfortable among the stable at Rocks In Your Head. “Yo Yo” feels like it could easily have come from one of label head Sonny Smith’s brushes with country, but Wong gives it his own spin. The song lopes and sways, a breezy picker with a nice wash of twang. The accompanying clip embraces the song’s namesake, spinning tricks under the hot lights while Ryan layers in the strums and hums and a bit of lap steel for good measure. The new album, The New Country Sounds of Ryan Wong, is out May 12th.
