Pneumatic Tubes – “Yellow Green and Gold

Good to check in with RSTB faves Ghost Box this year, and this week brings news of a new album on the way from Pneumatic Tubes. Keeping up the U.S. contingent of the label, the outfit is the solo guise of Jesse Chandler, woodwind and keys player for Midlake and Mercury Rev. Chandler’s new album focuses on his love of running, delving deep into the history of running as a cultural and physiological phenomenon. Pushing away from the instrumental material that made up his previous album, A Letter From TreeTops, the new single, “Yellow Green and Gold,” dabbles in lush, orchestral pop that might appeal to those Midlake fans who’ve been missing new material. Awash in flutes, strums, and soft-simmering harmonies, the single sets up the melancholy aura that awaits on Runner’s High. The new album is out August 22nd from Ghost Box imprint Belbury Music.
