Alex E.T. – “Summer For Now”
Following her home-recorded debut, L.A.’s Alex E.T. (aka Alexandra Elaine Tapié) entered the studio with a heavy team at her side — Eric Bauer at the boards and Ethan Miller in the producer’s chair. She expands on the psych touches from her first, blossoming the new batch into fuzz-laden epics full of ache, smudged with the stains of the ‘90s. The first cut from the new record is “Summer For Now,” a seething, pent-up patch of post-grunge than feels just perfect for the Mazzy Star, Breeders, and Opal fans. The single lets the listener get lost in the haze, a gauzy heat-dazed hummer that lets the sweat soak into the fuzz of the guitars. Quite a few are cribbing from the ‘90s these days, but its often the post-shoegaze punks and bombastic alt-pop impulses that get the new-era gloss up. It’s nice to see some of the decade’s ache back in stock. “Summer For Now” hooks the listener into the new EP, a driving gem that clambers out onto shelves September 26th from Curation.
