P.G. Six – “I Have Known Love”
It’s a good week for the gentler corners of folk and news of a new album from P.G. Six all but seals it. Following the vinyl issue of his long beloved Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites, Pat Gubler announces his first album since 2011’s Starry Mind. Gubler’s been nothing short of prolific in the interim, though, helming two records with Matt Valentine as Wet Tuna before recently departing, releasing two records with Weeping Bong Band, and adding a host of multi-instrumental embellishments to Garcia Peoples. This marks his first proper return to solo folk, though. Focusing on harp as the central proponent of the album, Pat creates spare, yet sonorous songs that feel as timeless as any in his catalog. The first single “I Have Known Love,” hangs on the air, crisp and cordial, an unembellished delight that carries on the troubadour tradition. The record features appearances from his Weeping Bong Bandmates Clark Griffin and Wednesday Knudson, though its primary focus remains on the solitary interplay between Gubler’s voice and his strings. The new record, Murmurs & Whispers, is out September 1st from Drag City.
