Misty Lanes – “And Here We Are”

Third Eye Stimuli continue to be a constant source of psych-pop joy these days. With a year already packed with Sunfruits, Hot Apple Band, and Chet Sounds, the label announces a new single from Misty Lanes. The moniker of Sydney’s Steven Schouten, Misty Lanes has been wringing a sunshine-psych sound from the clear blue corners of indie pop for a few years, while also dipping into more ornate works of soundtrack and library music. For his latest, Schouten slinks onto the speakers with the greased funk that’s been caught in the molasses drip of a slow-mo haze. Smoke ring halos circle around the track, pinned to organ lines and a head-nodding beat. It’s definitely a shift away from the sun for the band, but the night air looks good on ‘em. The single is untethered as yet, but hopes are there’s a long player attached to this one down the line.
