London Odense Ensemble – “Jaiyede Suite, Pt. 2”
The always evolving El Paraiso Records offers up another in their continuing series of psychedelic jazz records. Riffing on both the lineups of their Chicago Odense Ensemble, which found Jonas Munk and Jakob Skøtt collaborating with members of Tortoise and Chicago Underground Collective, and the just released Rude Skøtt Osborn Trio, the record melds the best of both worlds. On the upcoming Jaiyede Sessions Volume 1, Jonas Munk, Jakob Skøtt and Martin Rude join up with London jazz regulars Tamar Osborn and Al MacSween. Osborn was a key component of what made the trio work, and here she’s adding that same mercurial magic, switching between baritone sax and psych-inflected flute. MacSween takes the electric piano through the wormhole, playing off his own bevy of effects before Munk mixes things down with a humid atmosphere of dub adding a bit of elasticity to the record. The first single gives a taste of what’s to come, but this is truly a full album immersion. The record arrives later this month from El Paraiso.
