Causa Sui – “Astral Shores”

Often overshadowed on this side of the ocean, the great Causa Sui is back with news of another record. Following a first single tease last month, the band offers up the long and languorous “Astral Shores” this week, along with news of their upcoming new record In Flux. A kind of counterpoint to the tightly wound and tensile, From The Source, the new record showcases the band’s loose ends and improvisational aura. “Astral Shores,” serves as the centerpiece to the album, a long unfolding epic that runs 16+ minutes. Wrapping the listener in waves, the song pulses like a long lost quasar, beaming in its cosmic odyssey across space and time. While I love the Sui at their tightest, this is remains my favorite type of release from them, feeling akin to some of the longform workouts on their Summer Sessions run of records. The new album is out May 16th from El Paraiso.
