Lady Apple Tree – “Seas of Grain”

With a fresh scent of spring, a familiar name around RSTB floats back into frame this morning. On her last EP as Lady Apple Tree, LA singer-songwriter Haylie Hostetter tapped into an unvarnished vision of ‘60s folk, bringing to mind revered artists like Linda Perhaps and Susan Christie. She solidifies the allusions to past purveyors of mountain air and melancholy on her new single “Seas of Grain.” With production from Michael Harris (Father John Misty, Lana Del Rey, Angel Olsen) and Hostetter herself, the new single shines in it’s simplicity, a lilting folk number that lets Haylie’s voice shine. A road song tinged with bittersweet tears, “Seas of Grain” longs for home while yearning to see something new. The tension tugs at the song’s sweet, saccharine core. The new single is out now, with a debut album on the way soon.
