John Dwyer’s current crawl into the psychedelic jazz cavern continues unabated with his latest arriving just a few months after the funk-bent Moon Drenched and the free scrawl of Endless Garbage. Dubbed Gong Splat, this iteration features Ryan Sawyer, Greg Coates, Wilder Zoby, and Andres Renteria, shuffling the lineup he’s had over the past few, creating an ever-rotating lineup that keeps the ‘70s fusion flame lit high and hot. The first cut, the title track from the LP, is pumping on sweat-soaked keys and frayed guitar, letting Dwyer and Co. play in the deep end of the Miles/Hancock pool. The band is posing this “spitting fat and neon night light city drives,” and its hard to argue with that assessment. The album lands December 17th from Castle Face.
