Jefre Cantu-Ledesma – “The Milky Sea”

Ah, a presence that hasn’t been felt around these parts in some time, it’s always nice to see Jefre Cantu-Ledesma back on the speakers. Just in time to wipe the wither of the world from your mind, Jefre returns with a new album of all encompassing drone and pastoral ambience. First single “The Milky Sea” doesn’t tread lightly either, inviting the listener into the new album with 20+ minutes of meditative float. The record is rooted in Jefre’s Zen practices, and while it’s a mindful centering of the spirit, the meditation isn’t cut off from the community, bringing along a cadre of collaborators; Omer Shemesh (piano, arrangements), Joseph Weiss (engineering, bass guitar), Clarice Jensen (cello), and Booker Stardrum (percussion). The new track plunges the listener deep into the verdant sensory garden of Gift Songs, the upcoming new album out March 21st from Mexican Summer.
