Eli Winter – “For A Fallen Rocket”

Another excellent single out of the upcoming new record from Eli Winter, and with it a surreal video in which Eli interviews himself Hot Ones style. While the video obscures the song, it’s a heady dive into Eli’s own psyche. The cut, a standout on the forthcoming A Trick of the Light, again pushes Winter’s works into fuller territory, fleshing out Eli’s guitar work with pedal steel from Sam Wagster, upright bass from Andrew Scott Young, tenor from Gerrit Hatcher, and harmonium from Eli Schmitt. Unlike the first single, it stays away from Chicago post-rock impulses, trawling through open-skied Americana, a comfortable companion to today’s feature on Hayden Pedigo and classics from William Tyler. The song is bittersweet, tinged with a feeling of regret that turns to relief. The new album is out May 2nd from Three Lobed.
