A second slip into the universe of the new Djinn record finds the band pushing away from the Don Cherry mysticism of “Love Devine,” yet it doesn’t float free entirely. With a swaying rhythm rooting it down and a disorienting build, “Creator of Creation” makes great use of chanted vocals before letting in the sax groove and dizzying brain scrape of flutes towards the end. The band’s vision on their second album pushes much further out than their last go-round and has this album climbing the want list like few other psych jazz offerings from this year. The record lands April 23rd from Rocket Recordings. Check out the video edit above with some stock footage swirl for good measure.
