Delivery

Aussie outfit Delivery scratched the surface on their 2022 burner Forever Giving Handshakes. The record pulled not only press attention, but the ears of Heaveny, who back the band for their new album Force Majeure. A larger platform doesn’t soften the band’s sound. They rip into the record with caffeinated claws, nodding in the direction of their Aussie jitter-punk peers and predecessors (think: Toy Love, Ausmuteants) alongside the popped-vein pantheon that stretches from Television through Wire. Constantly slipping over the serrated edge of punk and post-punk, the band’s latest chafes delightfully, churning discomfort into damaged riffs that draw their fair share of blood.
The previous album had it’s own burn, and it hasn’t abated on the follow-up. If anything the band’s just turned up the flame, slipping away some of the soothing synth touches from Handshakes and letting guitars take a tighter grip on the album’s irradiated heart. Delivery lets rhythm throb on “The New Alphabet,” sends fuzz to fry the senses on “Put Your Back Into It,” and sees fit to let speed set the tone on “Stuck In The Game.” The vocals again pass back and forth between male and female leads enmeshing them further with some of their country’s best from the past few years like Terry and School Damage. The record is only bigger, bolder, and more curdled, full of just the kind of growth that fans of Handshakes could have hoped for in a follow-up.
