Black Thumb – “Walk On By”

The fertile San Francisco scene continues to give rise to indie pop faves around here. Black Thumb eschews the strummy side of the SF contingent, diving into the incandescent glow of Spacemen 3, Primal Scream, and Jesus and Mary Chain. The record features contributions from members of April Magazine and Dusk, but the bulk siphons from the well of songwriter Colin Wilde. While the record dips through moments of baggy beat and plaintive slowcore, standout single “Walk On By” explores the Spacemen/Spiritualized connection, buzzing with neon synths and half-whispers that creep through the darkness. Check out the video for the track above. Black Thumb’s new album, The Flying Propeller Group, is out now on DandyBoy Records.
