BASIC – “Index of Memories”

It’s a busy day for site favorites around here and coming in right behind The Lidders is a fellow interstate collective, BASIC with a new album on the way. The trio brings together Chris Forsyth with Douglas McCombs (Tortoise) and Mikel Patrick Avery (Natural Information Society). The band’s hypnotic heat gets a new dimension today, lighting “Index of Memories” up with less motorik motion and more emphasis on braided stringwork and Avery’s sampled textures. The first single retains the band’s nodding chug, thrumming like an engine of inertia, but this feels looser and more exploratory than they have in the past. The single slips through the veil and onto shelves as part of the band’s 2nd record, an eponymous crusher out June 12th from No Quarter.
