Uni Boys – “I Wanna Rock You b/w Downtown”

Waves of power pop will always rise and fall, but when a band nails the right radiation, it can be as potent as the first time The Shivers made you dance or Twilley made you swoon. LA outfit Uni Boys have already made some time here, but I have a feeling that they’re not straying from these pages anytime soon. The latest single, another double dose of soft-punch swagger only further entrenches the anticipation for more. The band has been pulling from a bit of The Quick and Milk n’ Cookies school, but there are some serious guitar shreds flying in every direction from “I Wanna Rock You,” a meatier take than they’ve displayed before. This one pushes into the post-glam slide of The Colors or Blue Ash and the change looks good on ‘em. On the flip, the band returns to the coy, but cutting power pop of their first couple of singles, letting that light touch bounce through the speakers. The single is out now on Curation Records and both songs will appear on their forthcoming album Do It All Next Week.
