The Men – “Hard Livin'”

The Men have become something of an institution over the years. Now nine albums deep, the band has moved through noise bursts, post-punk darkness, and even moments of acoustic clarity and toasted Americana on their last album, Mercy. As they clamp down on the arrival of their new album, New York City, the band has jettisoned the tenderness and tipped back towards rock’s more hedonistic impulses. Despite the NY title, there’s more than a bit of Motor City sweat imbued in the first single “Hard Livin’,” feeling like the band’s been pounding their skulls with Stooges and MC5 for the last year or so. The new album is out February 3rd from Fuzz Club.
