The Green Child – “A Long Beautiful Flowing Cape”
A new single from the sythier second album from Aussies The Green Child emerges today. “A Long Beautiful Flowing Cape” adopts an air-cooled atmosphere, loping on a nodding rhythm and pairing Raven’s vocals with a dark pulse of keys. As with the first single, this is a scrub up from the first album, sanding away the rough edges and post-punk wobble that permeated their debut. The band’s expanded along with their sound, adding Alex Macfarlane (former Twerps, The Stevens) and Shaun Gionis (Boomgates) to the outfit, rounding them out at a quartet. The band admits that in many ways the new album feels like a wholly new band, and that’s certainly true, sonically, but it retains the symbiotic interplay between Raven Mahon and Mikey Young that made the first so captivating. The new cut digs into the even arms of 4AD ‘80s and the aughts resurgence of synth that would follow, a lovely distillation of icy impulses. The new album, Look Familiar, is out November 15th, a split release between Upset The Rhythm and MacFarlane’s label Hobbies Galore.
