Ryan Wong – “Lead Paint”

As we crest into this Bandcamp Friday, there’s plenty of new releases to get on your radar, and a good place to start is this new album of country kickers from Ryan Wong (Cool Ghouls, Supreme Joy). The album shifts Wong’s focus from breezy garage and sixties strums to a strain of country that’s threaded with hurt and hunger. “Lead Paint” is a softly-slung sigh of circumstance and solace, making the best of the hand that’s dealt. This one is a bit of a subtle gut-punch, but New Country Sounds of Ryan Wong is more often laden with humor and hubris, a winking troubadour with a sly smirk. The new album is out May 12th from Rocks In Your Head.
