Ryan Baine – “Don’t Lose Your Soul”

Curation continues their run on the best psych-pop of 2022, following up the Eric Silverman single from last week with a second peek at the upcoming Ryan Baine album. Baine’s band culls together members of Mapache, Howlin’ Rain, GospelbeacH, and Grateful Shred, and that accumulated talent comes together on the propulsive “Don’t Lose Your Soul.” Where the last single skewed country-psych, this one has a driving beat beneath it with a soft pink haze swirling above the patter of drums. Churning guitars and a haze of synths form a comfortable cocoon around the track, swinging from the salt air of the West Coast towards a Britpop glaze that hints at the breadth of the new album. Morning Flight is out October 25th from Curation Records.
