Rich Ruth – “Desensitization and Reprocessing”

Avatar

Got a second single coming in from the upcoming Rich Ruth album and it adds some further shading to the album’s glaze of spiritual jazz and kosmiche immersion. The central tenets of his new album, I Survived, It’s Over, are there in the title and those themes spider out through the pieces, bubbling under the surface. “Desensitization and Reprocessing” is a song of struggle and solace, there’s a sense of relief but it’s a panting, sweating sort of relief that’s still on high alert. Howls that turn to sobs thread the song, which is ornamented with strings and synths, but its the sax that gives us the narrative. Slowly boiling until it bursts and collapses to the concrete, a prime example of Ruth’s cutting prowess. The new album is out August 12th from Third Man.
