Mythic Sunship – “Equinox”
Still feel like Mythic Sunship doesn’t get enough shouts in the States. The Copenhagen band were longtime members of the El Paraiso stable and have moved to Tee Pee for their last two records. Blending a blistering psych approach with cosmic jazz sax, the band’s albums hit like an acid scrub for the brain. The second single from their upcoming Light/Flux is a bit less of a burner than “Tempest,” which started us off last month. Instead “Equinox” employs the band’s prominence in dynamics, building slow and steady over seven minutes. Anchored by a chugging beat that’s bolted down by the rhythm section, the song gets a good dosing about a third of the way through as the guitars begin to eat at the steadiness of the song. By the time Søren Skov’s sax enters the song has begun to lay back into a slowly roasting bliss. Light/Flux is out September 30th from Tee Pee.
