MOOON – “Hurtin’ My Heart”

I enjoyed the psych-pop splash of the last MOOON album, and the Dutch group has returned this year with a new bout of ‘60s-spiked shakers. The new album offers up a quiver of darkness within the band’s sound, a nice change that comes through on the nearly eight-minute centerpiece “You Cannot Know,” but among the more upbeat fodder the band still keeps things slipping in dayglo paints. Album closer, “Hurtin’ My Heart” pins its revivalist shake to garage bass lines and a slice of organ straight from the 13th Floor. Dashed with stacked harmonies, the band makes it a memorable send off to their third album. III is out now.
