Mazozma – “Can I Get A Ride”

One of my favorites from the East Coast underground, Ma Turner, returns. Turner’s been integral in Warmer Milks, State Champion, Teal Grapefruit, and the criminally underrated Huevos II, but one of his longest running outfits has been Mazozma. The band returns for their sixth album, starting things off with the quietly haunted new single “Can I Get A Ride.” Following a relocation to the UK, the new album catches a some of the Autumnal English folk winds that have blown through releases from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Stalking one another in six and twelve string circles, Turner and James Bandenburg give the song an overcast air, lashing at the listener with a chill that’s bound to leave a little windburn on the brain. The new record, Bathing In The Stone, is out May 2nd from Sophomore Lounge.
