Maya Ongaku – “Water Dream” (live)

Absolutely one of my favorites over the past few years has been Japanese trio May Ongaku. The band made a shift towards more propulsive electronics on their last album, but the core of their sound has hovered in pastoral folk and ambient. This live clip of the band performing “Water Dream,” a standout from their first album, captures their calm nicely and is a gift to those in the West who are hard pressed to see the band live. Expanding the cut to 16+ minutes of ethereal float, it’s a gorgeous take on the song’s aqueous drift. Electronic Phantoms and Approach To Anima are out now from Guruguru Brain.
